Special Achievements at the 14th Annual Sri Lanka Schools All Island Age Group Novices Aquatic Championship
S. Thomas’ Prep School was successful in being awarded two medals at the recently concluded
14th Annual Sri Lanka Schools All Island Age Group Novices Aquatic Championships for 2022
organized by the Sri Lanka Schools Aquatic Sports Association which was held on the 13th and
14th of August and from the 19th- 21st Aug at the Sugathadasa Swimming Pool Complex.
Amitesha Sentitcumaran won 1st Place in the Under 18 Age Group 50 m Backstroke winning the
Gold medal, whilst he came in 5th place in the 200 m Individual Medley.
Atesha Sentitcumaran came in 2nd Place in the Under 18 Age Group 50 m Freestyle winning the Silver Medal in that event, and also finishing 5th in 50 m Butterfly stroke event.
More than 2000 girls and boys took part in this competition with the events for girls scheduled to be held on the 13th and 14th of August while the boys’ events are scheduled for 19th– 21st of August. The main objective of this competition is to introduce the competitive environment to beginner-level school swimmers and divers. The meet was conducted for 6 age groups ranging from under 11 to under 20 for both girls and boys. All participants who made the top 8 positions in each event qualify for the All-Island Age Group Novices Aquatic Championships.
Over fifty teams participated at this year’s meet, & the S. Thomas’ Prep School Swimming Team was placed 12th overall.
