Chess

The Chess Club was established in 2006 under the guidance of the then Headmaster Mr. N. Y. Casie Chetty. From the time of its inception, the club was registered with Sri Lanka Schools’ Chess Association (Affiliated to Schools Sports Council, Ministry of Education).  Since then, the Club has produced many top rated players and has been taking part in Chess Tournaments organised by the SLSCA and other well recognised Chess Academies both in individual and team categories. Members of our club have been registered under the age categories of Under 7, 9, 11, 13, 15, and 17. For the last 15 years the Club has organized Inter-House Chess Tournaments annually, with the exception of the year 2020 due to Covid-19 situation.

The Annual General Meeting of the Chess Club is included in the school calendar and the event takes place to elect new office bearers, discuss the progress of the Club and to plan the activities for the year ahead. Special meetings are held when there is a need to organize and prepare for tournaments.

Chess practices take place every Thursday from 2.00pm – 4.00pm in the school premises. Mr. M.L. Mohideen coaches the players and Mr. Francis Warnakulasuriya is the Master-In-Charge of the Chess Club.
