Interact Club

The Interact Club of S. Thomas’ Preparatory School was initiated on the 15th of December 1980 by the Rotary Club of Colombo Central under the guidance of Rotary Advisor Mr. L. Balendra and Headmaster Mr. J.S.L. Fernando. The club received its Charter the following year and the presentation of the Charter Certificate took place on the 20th of July 1985.

Committing to the motto of Interact ‘Service before Self’, the club has managed to organize countless projects in the avenues of Community Service, Green Life, Club Service, and International Understanding. A few noteworthy projects include providing furniture to the Methodist Tamil High School in Kollupitiya, Red Alert, an Awareness Campaign organized in 3 phases discussing vital topics such as Aids and Drug Abuse, Cancer Awareness and Mosquito related diseases, sponsoring the Education of Children at the SOS Children’s Village, Revolution of Sounds along with the Interact Club of S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia in aid of the Fortrose Building are among the many organised over the years.

Since its inception, the Interact Club has managed to mold its members into great leaders, caring for the Community and Environment with the main focus of ‘Service to Community’.

Noteworthy Achievements

  • 1984 Int. A. Obeysekera was appointed as the Zone Representative for Colombo in the District 321 Committee.
  • 1987 Int. Rukshan De Silva received the award for the ‘Best Interact Club Secretary’ for the year 1986/87.
  • 1995 Project Manager, Int. Safraz Abdeen had the privilege of being selected as the youngest member to represent an Interact Club at the International Youth Exchange Program organized by the Rotary Club of Sri Lanka.
  • 1999 Int. Suranjith Tilakawardane was adjudged the ‘Most Outstanding Interactor’ for the year 1998/99 at the 8th Interact District Conference.
  • 2000 The Club was awarded with a ‘Recognition Award’ by the Interact District for the year 1999/2000.
  • 2001 Int. Sandesh Rodrigo won the award for the ‘Best President’ for the year 2000/01.
  • 2001 The I.C.S.T.P.S. was elected among the ‘Best 20 Interact Clubs’ for the year 2000/01.
  • 2007 Int. M.B. Thassim and Int. K.C. Hettiarachchi were recognized by the District for the valuable Services rendered by them.
  • 2007 Int. K.C. Hettiarachchi was elected as the ‘Outstanding Secretary’ for the year 2006/07 by the District.
  • 2013 Citation for being one of the ‘Most Outstanding Interact Clubs’ during the year 2012/13.
  • 2013 Int. Amrith Edirisooriya received a citation for being one of the ‘Most Outstanding Presidents’ during the year 2012/13.
  • 2013 Int. P.P. Sahan Jayalath was elected to the Board of Directors of the District 3220 Committee for the year 2013/14.
  • 2014 Citation for being one of the ‘Most Outstanding Interact Clubs’ during the year 2013/14.
  • 2014 Int. Eshan Wijeratnam received a citation for being one of the ‘Most Outstanding Presidents’ during the year 2013/14.
  • 2014 Int. Eshan Wijeratnam received the Presidential Citation for actively working to ‘Engage Rotary Changes Lives.’
  • 2014 Int. Niruth Bogahawatte received the award for the ‘Best Rylarian’ at the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA).
  • 2014 Int. P.P. Amrith Edirisooriya was elected to the Board of Directors of the District 3220 Committee for the year 2014/15.
